| TAKING PRECEPTS |

Comment: This is the recitation that we use during the NyungNay retreats. It refers to the basic vows kept by the monastics. In this case, the vows are kept for one days, from sunrise to sunrise.

By keeping the Sojong vows thoroughly purifies the bad karma that will cause an individual to fall into the Hell Realm;

By fasting one purifies the bad karma to be reborn in the Hungry Ghosts Realm;

By keeping silent one purifies the bad karma to be reborn in the Animal Realm;

All suffering and misfortune come front negative influences; the “taking vows” practice increases the positive influences and thereby brings happiness and harmony.
